Franchisee Profile: Eddie Russ
Opening Date: 2007/2009
Territory/Address: Austin and San Antonio
Phone Number: (512) 217-3520
Eddie grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois where he graduated in 1993 with a degree in Psychology. He then moved to San Francisco where he served as Dean of students and Athletic Director at a high school while simultaneously acting as coach for the varsity basketball and soccer teams. In 2001 he moved to Austin, TX to continue in administration and education at St. Stephens Episcopal School from 2001-2007. He was ready to make a career change but wanted to keep his focus on children and sports, and found the perfect opportunity to do so with Soccer Shots.
How did you learn about the brand? I learned about the position on Craigslist. I thought it was a great inclusion of the skill set I already had and started a Soccer Shots in 2007. I have been going strong ever since.
What was appealing to you about joining a franchise system? I wasn’t looking to get into a franchise; it was something I randomly came across. Soccer and kids are definitely right up my alley and I enjoy the franchise community.
How do you connect with the local community through your business? We do events such as school fundraisers and we’re currently planning an event in East Austin in the springtime. Ideally we’ll have a free, eight week Soccer Shots program for kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity to participate.
What challenges have you overcome to get where you are now? Coming from a teaching background into entrepreneurship was a transferring of skills that I had to adapt and get used to. I moved from a classroom to the business world.
What are your expansion or development plans? None at the moment.
Do you have any other interesting hobbies or passions? On the weekend, I like to DJ.
